Promising field of application of NANODIAMONDS is stimulation of nerve cells by microelectrode chips coated with nanodiamond layer of different chemical modification, which is tracked in vitro on the level of cell lines of astrocytes and neuronal cells or on primary cultures of microglia and neurons. These results are directed at stimulation of neurotransmission in various degenerative processes of the central and peripheral nervous system (Parkinson’s disease, depressive disorders, multiple sclerosis).
The aim is to improve the adhesiveness of neurons to mikroctrodes and increase their activity and signal transduction. Besides studies of neurons we will examine the answer of resident immune cells of the CNS – microglia, which play an important role in neurodegenerative processes.
